kakek_screams

Hello there, it’s been a while since my last post and I’ve been missing too many things that are so good to be blogged. Procrastination reigned over everything.

Happy new year! Happy birthday mom and friends!

Last weekend my friends and I went to Haris’ birthday bash at Urban Lounge. It was an awesome night, Haris’ managed to open a couple of bottles for us to get drunk with. There were Ncek, Jidat, Angie, Iib, Haris himself, Kakek, Bram, Kemi, Zaki, Laren, Arif, and couple of Haris’ friends which I couldn’t really get their names when we introduced ourselves inside the club. Saying your names in a club is  pointless, you shake hand, my name is something that you couldn’t really hear, in turn you pretend to listen to his/her name, you nod, you smile, and then you go ask your friend what was that guy’s/girl’s name again. Or you can ask names after the party had ended. Or if you’re still too drunk to remember shit, there is always the day after.

The plan was, we will drink moderately, no one would get drunk, and will go home at maximum one o’ clock. Moderate drinking wasn’t printed on a bottle of free Chivas, neither on a free Absolut Vodka. The continuous ritual of rushing alcohol into your mouth went with bangs of electro house and dances past one o’ clock.

I liked the venue. It was my first time being there. It wasn’t so much of a big club, it  resembles much more like a bar or a lounge with a dancefloor. Reminds me of Zouk’s Loft when it was still around, if you ask me. The DJ is alright I guess. I remembered he played Cut Copy’s Hearts on Fire, Soulwax’s NY Excuse, and other electro stuffs. The crowd was awesome either, in the middle of drunken-ness I accidentally dropped my phone and someone picked it up and return it to me. Unfortunately, my head wasn’t really working the way its supposed to be, so he gave it to my bro. Not bad man, not bad.

And then Haris puked. Kakek puked with his hand trying to cover his mouth and put back all the puke to his mouth. I ran to the toilet and puked. I came back to sit on the sofa and puked again. Angie went to toilet and puked. Somewhere in between, I guess Haris puked again. I puked. Then, someone were massaging the back of my neck, gave me a bucket to puke on, somebody gave me a slice of lime for me to eat, water to drink, and then I puked again. Someone tried to start a civilized conversation with me, are you alright man? Do you still wanna puke? Do you wanna go to the toilet? We should do this again back in KL man, for sure. The only reply that I made was, of course, puking. It was all puke puke puke all over the place. Talking about hittin’ the jackpot and brotherly love.

But me loved that night very much, thank you Haris. Thanks for all the drinks and fun get together time we’ve had there. Do it again sometime soon.

Songs of the day:

Friendly Fire – Paris

Van She – Changes (G.L.O.V.E.S remix)

The Black Ghosts – Repetition Kills You (RAC remix)

As some of you may know, Van She came over to town yesterday, along with Dexpistols the DJ duo from Japan, and the most-awesome LAPSAP. The party itself was a Heineken private function, which I got the invitation from the LAPSAP draw :) .

I arrived there about 10 o’ clock-ish with a couple of friends who got the invitation as well. The queue line was longer and was quite packed, compared to last week’s Simian Mobile Disco. So, I went in, the band already played 2 songs so I think I missed The Sea and Cat And The Eye. Inside, fuck, it was so friggin’ packed, you could barely move, so I was stucked near the entry. However, I still got a good view of them whom already started to play Talkin’, and yeah I started to record a couple songs that they performed. Their live performance is exceptionally good, I love how Nick (the vocalist, fyi) sounds just like he sounded like on the records. Only a few indie bands do that.

The live set ended about 11 o’ clock-ish (when my arms were pretty stiff from holding up the camera), Dexpistols started to spin. And hell they’re really good, even better than their Youtube videos. And then came Van She turns to spins. And then Dexpistols came in again to mash up some shit with Van She. Came along LAPSAP. And then they did some mash-up stuffs with Dexpistols.

Again, compared to last week’s stuffs, I like how the DJs (Van She, Dexpistols, LAPSAP) are all so interactive with the crowd, something that you would rarely see back at Jakarta. Have you ever been to a party, where there are guys who did some bodysurfing like it was a rock concert? It was one of the best party that I’ve ever been. I liked the lineups, the music, the crowds, and most importantly, the atmosphere that made me jumping from 11PM-3AM. Like every fellow Indonesian would say,

GOKIL MENG.

virgin suicide

Simply said, this track below is my personal favorite of Van She’s V. It’s a pure-pop-electro-joy. Just listen until it hits the chorus, then you will start to fall in love again with the world.

Virgin Suicide by Van She

morning post

August 12, 2008

It’s 3 o’ clock now, and I’ve just sent an email to my lecturer regarding my assignment to do.

Two days ago, I got a full album of The Presets’ Apocalypse (or is it Apocalypto?) and Van She’s new album V. And both are awesome Australian band. My two cents? Apocalypto is good, you know the electro-post-disco stuff goodness. Haven’t listened to all of the tracks but I’ve got few favorites like My People and The Boy Is In Love. On the other hand, V, sounds like a little bit shoegaze (check out The Sea) but most of the tracks are pop-electro, which reminds me like Cut Copy. But what differ them from Cut Copy is that they use less flanger than Cut Copy, so the they sound more like a band rather than a synthesyzed electro band. You know what I mean, do you?

Anyway, you can call this a post that is posted for the sake of posting. Right, gotta go to sleep now. Good night citizens of the waking world.
